Abstract: The effects of applying arrays of directive loudspeakers as secondary sources for Wave Field Synthesis have been the subject of research since the appearance of early WFS theory, and is well studied for the special case of a linear arrangement of loudspeakers, with specific virtual source models: with virtual point sources.Recently a unified WFS theory has been developed allowing the synthesis of arbitrary 3D fields utilizing arbitrary shaped secondary source contours.The present paper deals with the effects of loudspeaker directivity in this unified WFS framework.It is discussed, how these effects can be described analytically for the general case of an arbitrary virtual sound field synthesized by an arbitrary loudspeaker layout.Furthermore, the possibilities for analytical compensation are elaborated, allowing amplitude correct synthesis along a prescribed reference curve even with applying directive secondary source elements.
