Simulation of Transfer Impedance for Perforates Including Background Flow

When a bias or grazing background flow is introduced in a perforate, acoustic properties like the transfer impedance will change. Well-known semi-analytical models for the transfer impedance exist, including corrections for the background flow. In this work, we perform a numerical analysis of the end correction including background flow, losses due to turbulence, thermal losses and viscous losses. The problem is modeled using the full set of linearized Navier-Stokes equations formulated in the frequency domain. Applications include extracting the transfer impedance from a detailed sub-model to be used in full system modeling. In muffler systems, for example, the flow effects may only introduce local effects in perforates and a sub-model can therefore be used.
