Physical and Perceptual Evaluation of Guitar Loudspeakers

Active and passive loudspeaker system designed for electric guitars use particular transducers that generate signal distortion in the reproduced sound which are an essential requirement for the artistic expression in modern music. This paper gives an overview on the physical mechanisms, the state of the theoretical modeling and practical measurement of the linear and nonlinear parameters required for the numerical prediction of the reproduced sound. This analysis reveals a highly nonlinear, unstable vibration behavior at higher amplitudes. The perception of the generated signal distortion is investigated by modern auralization techniques.
